A module's quality is not decided inside the authoring tool, but before: in the storyboarding. A beautiful but poorly thought-out module bores; a simple but well-storyboarded module teaches. Here is a 6-step method to structure your path before opening Storyline, Genially or any other tool.
What should the learner be able to do at the end? A behavioural, observable objective, not a vague “know about”. It is the compass for the whole module.
Level, context, time constraints. A field module is not storyboarded like an executive course.
Break it into short sequences with a clear progression. Alternate input, example, practice. Our advice to create an engaging course complements this step.
This is the most neglected step. For a behaviour, plan a real role-play, not a quiz. A conversational AI brick like Face Up fits here: see the authoring tool + AI duo.
The assessment must measure the objective from step 1, and produce a usable trace for Qualiopi.
Formalise it screen by screen, then test with a real learner before finalising in the tool. AI can speed up production: see AI authoring tool.
Six steps, one rule: think about practice before the tool. To turn this storyboard into a module, return to the complete 2026 authoring tool guide.
